What is WordPress?

WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS). It’s a simple, yet immensely powerful script that helps you create, manage, and share your content easily on the web. Currently WordPress has two versions, WordPress.com (hosted) and WordPress.org (self-hosted). While we do have themes for both versions, all the themes on our site will only work with the WordPress.org (self-hosted) software. You can find our themes for WordPress.org on our theme page.

What is a theme?

A theme, template, skin, etc… is a ready to use design and layout that you can pop right onto your existing WordPress site. WordPress handles all of the content for you (posts, pages, comments), while the theme transforms that content into a beautiful and clean layout for your visitors to see.

How do I install a theme?

Begin a new theme installation by first uploading the theme files. The theme files can be uploaded in one of two ways:

FTP Upload

  1. Unzip the theme.zip file
  2. Upload the unzipped theme folder into the /wpcontent/themes/ folder on your server

WordPress Dashboard Upload

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Add New Themes > Upload
  2. Click to browse and select the zipped theme folder (do not unzip the theme files prior to upload)
  3. Click “Install Now” to upload and install the theme

Once the theme is uploaded, activate it by navigating the Themes page Appearance > Themes, and click to activate your chosen theme.

Is WordPress only used for blogging?

It’s a common misconception that WordPress is only used as a blogging solution. In fact, WordPress is a robust content management system for professional websites and applications that maintains an ease of use not found among other website management platforms. WordPress can be used to create so much more than a blog — including business solutions, membership sites, eCommerce storefronts, online portfolios, SaaS sites, web applications and much more.

Pre-purchase Questions

As a member, what do I get?

During the course of your membership you will have access to our entire collection of themes, all theme updates, all new theme releases, our support forums and all design files. You are free to use our products for personal and commercial use on unlimited domains.

Do DesignOrbital themes work on WordPress.com?

The themes you’ll get from DesignOrbital.com website only work on self-hosted WordPress installations, the content management system which you can download from WordPress.org. We do however have a selection of our premium themes available for separate purchase on WordPress.com. If you have a WordPress.com hosted website, the themes downloaded from our website will not work on your site.

Can I install DesignOrbital themes on multiple sites?

Yes, you are free to use our products on unlimited domains.

Do all the themes work with the latest version of WordPress?

Yes, we code our themes to be compatible with the most two recent releases of WordPress. All themes are reviewed to ensure they work with WordPress updates. Also, each theme page lists the minimum WordPress version required for the theme to properly function.

With which browsers are the themes compatible?

We test and support all of our themes in all major browsers. That means our themes will work in Internet Explorer 9 and 10, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera.

Can I try out a theme prior to purchase?

No, we do our best to showcase the themes as we’d see them being used. Keep in mind that if you are trying to decide between themes in the collection, you get access to the entire collection of themes with your membership.

Can I get a refund?

We generally do not offer refunds, as there is no way to return a digital product. Unfortunately, it is one of the few tools we have to combat internet fraud. If you are experiencing any difficulty with the theme, we are more than happy to provide support and resolve the situation. If your circumstance can’t be resolved with support, you are welcome to contact us with an explanation of your situation.

Do you offer customization support?

The support forums are to help you in the use of your DesignOrbital theme. While we are more than happy to help with minor changes (adding/editing a few lines of CSS), more extensive changes will need to be handled by a developer. If you are in need of a developer, send us a message, and we will connect you with our customisation team.

Support Questions

How do I get support?

Once you have created your membership, simply login and head into the support forums to begin asking your questions. Questions are generally answered within 24 hours, with the exception of weekends and holidays.

Why can’t I access support?

Possibly for one of two reasons:

1. Your theme was purchased from a trusted outside source, such as Creative Market or your hosting provider. If so, you will need to use our contact form and submit a support access request with your provided purchase information. Note: If your theme was purchased from WordPress.com, support is provided within the WordPress.com support forums.
2. Your support subscription may have expired. It expires a year from your purchase date if canceled. If your subscription was canceled and you would like access again, you may renew your subscription or purchase another product to regain access.

How long does support last?

You have access to the support forums for the entirety of your membership. As long as you’re a member, you are able to access the support forums.

Theme Questions

Can I remove the DesignOrbital copyright from the footer?

Yes, you are free to change copyright information in the footer as you see fit.

Can I easily translate a DesignOrbital theme?

All of our themes are localized and include default .pot files. These are the files that you can use to easily translate a theme using Poedit. You can also use any one of the translation plugins available from WordPress.org to help you in the translation process.

Can I use a theme for a client’s site?

Yes. Our memberships are truly unlimited, which means you are free to do with the themes as you like. You are permitted to use them for personal or commercial use as well as to install on multiple domains.

Do DesignOrbital themes work with child themes?

Yes, our themes are 100% child theme friendly. If you are unfamiliar with child themes, a child theme is a theme that inherits the functionality of another theme, which is its parent theme. Child themes are the easiest way to modify a an existing theme. Basically, you modify your child theme, and these changes override the functionality/presentation of the parent theme. This enables you to safely update the parent theme without losing your modified code. To learn more about Child Themes and how to work with them, please visit http://wordpress.org/child-themes.

How often do you release new themes?

We don’t have a set schedule for releasing new themes. We believe in quality over quantity, and improving our existing themes is just as important to us as releasing new themes.

Plugin Questions

Does DesignOrbital offer support for plugins?

Yes, most plugins should work with our themes, HOWEVER, we can’t guarantee they all will. There are some plugins that conflict with code used in the themes, which will make our themes not function properly. There are thousands of plugins available and we can’t test every one with our themes unfortunately. If the plugin has been coded to WordPress’ standards it’ll work 99% of the time.
